Emmys 2008: The Series Semifinalists Are In, but What Are Your Picks?

Kristin Chenoweth, Stewie from Family Guy, Tina Fey, Lance Reddick, Sandra Oh, Naveen Andrews

The 2008 Emmy nominations announcements are due out very soon—on Thursday, July 17, to be specific—and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has offered up a sneak preview this year, releasing an official list of semifinalists.

The good news is that some of our faves, like Lost and 30 Rock, made it. The bad new is that some of our faves, like Battlestar Galactica and How I Met Your Mother, did not make it. And the competition only gets tougher from here on out.

I’m interested in your take on this year’s nominations. Which shows are you cheering for? Which fave series of yours was unfairly snubbed again this year? Vote in the polls below, and then testify about your picks (especially any shows that I totally missed) in the comments…

Lost: Taller Ghost Walt Talks About Who Has to Go Back to the Island

Malcolm David Kelley, Lost

One of the (many) burning questions inspired by the Lost finale is, “To whom was Ben referring when he says that everyone has to go back to the Island?” Meaning, who, exactly, is everyone?

Does everyone include Ji-Yeon, who was conceived on the Island but never took a breath there? Does it include helicopter pilot Frank, who just stopped by for a three-hour tour? And perhaps most intriguingly, does it include Walt, who left “early,” and whose father has surely already paid the piper?

Now, I can’t tell you yet if Ben’s edict includes the babies, but I can tell you what Malcolm David Kelley thinks about Walt’s situation! Click in to find out his take on Walt’s destiny:

When asked at the 34th Annual Saturn Awards in Universal City, Calif., if he thought Walt had to go back with the rest of the gang, Malcolm said, “Yeah, I think I should go back to the Island and stir up a little trouble back there. I think that’d be pretty cool.” Agreed!

Has he talked to the writers about guesting, recurring or becoming a regular on either of the show’s final two seasons? Said Malcolm: “They haven’t told me anything right now, but if and when they tell me, I’ll go out to Hawaii and start working.”

In the meanwhile, between now and the return of Lost, hang in there to see Malcolm in a new film he’s very enthusiastic about. He said, “I just finished a movie in North Carolina called Mississippi Damned. It should be coming out some time next year, and it’s a drama taking place in the ’80s and ’90s. It’s a very good movie—really deep.” Can’t wait!

Anyway, taller ghost Walt back on the Island for reals? Sounds absolutely fab to me—what do you think? Post in the comments.

Nicole Richie Comes to Chuck!

Nicole Richie

Fellas, whip out your drool cloths, ’cause Yvonne “Strahotski” Strahovski is about to girlfight again—this time with guest star Nicole Richie.

Yvonne Strahovski, Chuck

NBC just confirmed that the rumors are true. Richie will be popping into Chuck for an episode in which she will play Sarah’s (Yvonne) former high school nemesis. (So very Lohan on Betty, right?) Richie plays a “snarky and spiteful girl who tortured Sarah,” and something tells me she’s gonna so regret that whe she sees Sarah has the ability split hairs with a ninja knife. (Hooray for catfights!)

“Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny,” says Chuck boss Josh Schwartz. “This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and be diabolically evil and kick some butt.”

In other breaking news (which might make some of you fellas cry), Yvonne herself tells us we won’t see much of her signature Weinerlicious costume this season, and Jamie Kennedy, who just started work on the Ghost Whisperer set right next to Chuck tells me, “They just blew up something big, but I can’t say what it is.”

So something tells me—spoiler alert!—the Weinerlicious hut might go boom. If so, get your free toasted weenies all over the streets of Burbank right now! Bring your buns!

Nicole Richie on Chuck—yay or nay? Comment below. (I vote yay.)

Exclusive: P.I. Lucas to Be New Love Interest for Cuddy on House

Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, Michael Weston

Sources tell me the new character on House, private detective Lucas, has a crush on one Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein)! Apparently, love, like Legionnaires’ disease, is an infection that travels through the air—and the contagion is spreading through Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital!

As you may remember, Lucas (played by Six Feet Under’s Michael Weston) is the character being introduced for a multiepisode arc this season to act as a foil for the doctors and possibly be the main character in a House spinoff. In the meantime, however, it looks like he’s going to be another side in the love polygon surrounding Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie).

Is it just me, or is charming, blue-eyed rogue House not going to take too kindly to some charming, blue-eyed rouge moving in on his very favoritest hottie hospital administrator?

It’s OK, though, because if you ask me, persnickety and passionate House is the best kind of House there is. What do you think of this development? Do you think jealousy will finally drive House to declare his intentions to Cuddy? Post your take in the comments!
