San Jose Gets a Dose of the Spice Girls
“Spiceworld” hit San Jose, California last night, and the Hewlett Packard Pavilion was rocking the night away.
In the first US show of their reunion tour, Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown, Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, Emma “Baby Spice” Burton, Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm and Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell took the stage like the seasoned veterans that they are. And they put on what many are calling the concert of the year.
Their opening number “Spice Up Your Life” (the same as their Vancouver show two nights prior) drew the screams of thousands of eager fans gratifying their desires for the tasty, sugary brand of pop the UK girl group is known for.
And the wardrobe was nothing short of fabulous. As one reviewer put it, “Posh, whose soccer-star hubby David Beckham was reportedly in the audience, wore a gorgeous, tight-fitting gold pant-and-corset outfit, while Baby looked mighty cute in her short dress and Ginger rocked a sexy, even shorter, hemline. The other two Spices—Scary and Sporty—weren’t nearly as fetching. The former wore a reptilian patterned jumpsuit and the latter was in a spacey work-out suit that seemed straight out of the “Battlestar Galactica” closet.”
Of course, there were multiple costume changes throughout the 100-minute whirlwind set, as well as a solo by each of the girls. With the kind of amazing press the Spice Girls are getting thus far, they may have to continue their tour Grateful Dead-style in order to appease the insatiable appetites of the world’s pop music consumers.

Spice Girls fans that couldn’t get into their Wednesday night show at the Los Angeles Staples Center got a second chance to see Melanie Chisholm perform last night at The Mint.
And most of the Spice family was there to support her. Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham and her hot hubby David were in the audience cheering Mel on.
And the Spice Girls’ other Mel - Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown - also made an appearance to show some love to her Spice Sister.
There’s no word as to any other plans for Mel C to do any solo gigs in the cities visited by the Spice Girls reunion tour. But keep your eyes peeled- there’s no telling what could happen now that these five ladies are back together.
Melanie ’Scary Spice’ Brown Welcomes a Girl
Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown welcomed a baby girl early Tuesday, PEOPLE has confirmed.
“The baby is completely healthy with a good head of hair,” a rep for Brown said in a statement.
“Mother and baby are now resting. No name has been decided on as yet and she is purely known as Baby Brown.”
Brown, 31, was taken to Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica at around 5.30 p.m. Monday and the baby was born just after midnight Tuesday, the rep said.
The new arrival – who weighed in at 5 lb., 4 oz. – joins 8-year-old sister Phoenix Chi, Brown’s daughter with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar.
“Both mother and baby are expected to leave the hospital in the next few days and are looking forward to going back home,” Brown’s mother tells PEOPLE.
The paternity of the new baby, however, is in question. Brown has said her ex-boyfriend, Eddie Murphy – who shares a birthday with the infant and turned 46 on Tuesday – is the father, but he has questioned that claim.
“I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test,” Murphy said on a Dutch TV show in December when asked about impending fatherhood. “You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir.”
Brown later released a statement saying she was “upset and distressed” by Murphy’s comments.
In March, Murphy’s new girlfriend, film producer Tracey Edmonds, told Chicago’s Power 92 radio station of Murphy and Brown: “Without me getting too deep into it, they had a quick relationship before I even got into that, before I got into a relationship with Eddie. So that’s like their business that’s going on. There’ll be a paternity test and if it’s his then he’ll be responsible.”
