Vanessa Hudgens: Keeping Busy in NYC
Vanessa Hudgens: Keeping Busy in NYC
It’s the beginning of a whirlwind few months for Vanessa Hudgens. And she’s been spending the week in New York City tending to her promotional duties.
Yesterday, the High School Musical cutie was spotted on her way to a photo shoot at the Pier 59 Studios in the Chelsea Piers district of Manhattan, following appearances on Good Morning America and Live with Regis and Kelly.
And the day before, Miss Hudgens was busying herself with a visit to MTV Studios in Times Square to tape a segment for the teen-popular Total Request Live.
Vanessa recently told press that despite her nude photo scandal last year, she’s still holding out hope that she can maintain her image as a role model for young girls.
She said, “At the end of the day I have to be happy with myself. Just going to live my life and enjoy doing it. You only have one shot… of course I want to be a good role model and try to do my best but I’m still me.”
MTV puts the spotlight on young veterans
MTV continues its commitment to inspire young people to get out there and vote. As part of the Choose or Lose campaign, on July 4th MTV2 will honor the millions of young men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The day-long programming event will include exclusive messages from both Senator McCain and Senator Obama. The programming block will not only pay tribute to the sacrifice of these young soldiers, but also elevate their issues in light of the 2008 Presidential campaigns.
The evening block includes:
6:00 p.m. Iraq Uploaded
6:30 p.m. True Life: I Live in Iraq
8:30 p.m. True Life: I’m Shipping Out
9:30 p.m. True Life: I’m Coming to America
10:30 p.m. True Life: I’m a Civilian Again
If you miss these shows on the Fourth, I’m sure they will air in countless re-runs. This sounds like a great idea on the part of MTV. The network has always been attentive to young voters and I think it’s great that they are putting the young vets in the spotlight. I’m especially interested in the show that tackle what’s it’s like to come back home after being overseas.
A-List Secrets: Why Stars Need Reality Shows
What’s with celebs needing to do all these reality shows? Are these people so obsessed with themselves, or do they just need the money? D.D.
The answer is as varied as the colors of the diamonds that Jennifer Lopez sees dancing in her dreams. Jamie Foxx has a new MTV reality show debuting July 15, but he won’t be appearing at all, leaving money as the most likely motivation.
In producing a reality show, big celebs typically get “a 5 or 10 percent takeback from everything made through the show,” explains marketer Richard Laermer, who steered über-producer Peter Guber into a reality-show career. “And if the show goes overseas, you can make a fortune on that thing.”
So where does that leave, like, Tori Spelling? Well…
With a drama-turned-reality star like Tori, a flagging career is the likely motivation. She was on Beverly Hills, 90210 in the early 1990s. Then people forgot about her for a while. The Earth rested and everyone was at peace.
Except for Tori, of course. Back she came. She hyped herself and her life through a couple of seasons of Tori and Dean: Something Something Something, and behold, the comeback. She landed an endorsement deal with NutriSystem. She has enough of a fan base for people to care about the birth of her second baby. She’s front and center in a Sketchers ad campaign. Even the death of her dog is news.
“Just like the stock market, celebrities have to aggressively maintain and refreshen those brands, or they will go stale and grow old,” says James Lee, president of the Lee Strategy Group, a marketing consultancy that has pitched celebrities for reality shows.
Speaking of stale and old, gotta go. I think my editor needs something.
Oh, and be my fan on Facebook, ’kay?
Vanessa Hudgens’ Day in the Big Apple
Vanessa Hudgens’ Day in the Big Apple
It’s been a big week for Vanessa Hudgens. She arrived in New York City Monday in preparation for the release of her new album Identified and ever since she’s been living it up in the big city.
Yesterday, the High School Musical hottie made an appearance on MTV’s TRL before enjoying a Big Apple shopping spree at the celebrity-popular Intermix boutique.
And Miss Hudgens seemed to take after Nicole Richie with her hippie-style wardrobe, including a black-with-multicolor pattern spaghetti strap top, vintage-looking jeans, skinny headband, and a pair of strappy gladiator sandals.
Following her retail therapy session, Vanessa was spotted grabbing some dinner at the trendy Waverly Inn, along with socialite/actress Paz de la Huerta.
