Ex-Whitesnake Guitarist, RIP

Mel Galley

Mel Galley, the former guitarist and backing vocalist for White Snake in its early-’80s incarnation, has died at the age of 60, the band confirmed on its website.

Galley passed away on Tuesday at his home in Staffordshire, England, after battling cancer of the esophagus, according to British media reports.

Frontman David Coverdale told the BBC that he “treasures the memory of knowing [Galley] and working together with him.”

Galley played for the hard-charging, Led Zeppelin-influenced group from 1982 to 1984, joining shortly after the band recorded Saints and Sinners, which made the U.K. top 10 and contained the eventual megahit “Here I Go Again.”

The band rerecorded that signature song for 1987’s self-titled LP, which became Whitesnake’s breakthrough in the U.S.

But by then Galley had already left the group after sustaining an injury to his arm followed by a bungled operation that caused nerve damage. After major rehabilitation, he was able to pick up the guitar again for such bands as Phenomena and MGM, the latter reuniting him with former ’Snakers Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray.

On Feb. 7, Galley posted a message on his MySpace blog announcing he had terminal cancer and expressing his love for his wife and two sons.

“I have enjoyed a great life,” he wrote, “traveled the world having some amazing experiences, met all sorts of people and played with some of the best musicians there are.”

Tila Tequila’s “A Shot at Love” Shocker

Tila Tequila’s “A Shot at Love” Shocker

The latest season of her reality dating show “A Shot at Love” has come to an end and Tila Tequila stopped by MTV’s Total Request Live yesterday to talk about the finale.

The MySpace queen hammed it up at the Times Square studios, along with this season’s winner Kristy Morgan.  But the season finale didn’t go the way everyone was expecting.

When everything was said and done, Tila had to choose between the studly Bo and the sexy Kristy.  And when she eliminated her male suitor, there was only one thing left to ask Kristy - “You still have a shot at love- are you interested?”

Unbeknownst to Miss Tequila, Kristy wasn’t quite ready for a relationship, hence she declined the invitation.  That’s why it’s called reality TV… anything can happen.

Huey Lewis and The News’ “Pineapple Express” Hits Web. Nice.

Today brings us, “Pineapple Express,” the sooo ’80s and agreeable theme song for Seth Rogen’s pot actioner of the same name by Huey Lewis and the News (Sports, Patrick Bateman’s Walkman). If you thought Huey might try to imitate the Neptunes, please excuse yourself and go bask in I Love the New Millenium, because this track could have been the adulterated b-side to BTTF’s “Back in Time.” Is it better? No way. Does it make you want to do a cannonball with a joint in your mouth and a hamburger in your left hand? Obviously.

You can stream the film’s entire soundtrack on MySpace, which includes tracks from Cypress Hill (so ’90s), Peter Tosh, Bell Biv Devoe (my second babysitter, Pam, is siked!), Public Enemy and Mountain. Wow, Huey Lewis just said “chronic” in his signature happy hour jock croon. M.I.A. move over. Summer ‘08 just got lazier and so much higher.

Discuss: Is this the new “Back in Time”?

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt: Bigger than Beckhams?

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt: Bigger than Beckhams?

Keeping up with their crazy self-promotional schedule, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were spotted shortly after landing at LAX International Airport yesterday.

Famished from their flight, the peroxide pair elected to satisfy their appetites at their local Don Antonio’s Mexican Cantina, located in Westwood.  Miss Montag looked cute in a black tank top and jeans with a white Hermes Birkin handbag, while Pratt looked preppy in a white polo shirt and dark jeans with sneakers.

The “Hills” couple’s latest venture is called Speidiweb, a social networking website that is, in their words, “going to be bigger than MySpace, bigger than Facebook.”

Also on their list of things to do- becoming more popular than David and Victoria Beckham.  Heidi told press, “They’re great with their branding. But Speidi is going to take it to another level. I mean, I definitely want to surpass both of them.”
