Naomi Angered by "Golliwog Supermodel" Taunt
You probably know that Naomi Campbell pled guilty yesterday to assaulting police officers after a mid-air disturbance on British Airways. If you missed it, get all the details in our news story here.
But here’s some backstory from Britain’s Sky News (via gossip guy Perez). Yes, Naomi admits she was wrong, but she has more to say about why she went off:
“I was called a racial name on that flight. And that was part of my reaction. Again, nothing to do with the police but yes from British Airways. I was called a golliwog supermodel, I don’t think that’s really fair, do you?’ Would you like it if someone turned round and called you a golliwog supermodel?
“I mean, I’m proud to be a black woman, I’m proud to be British, I’m proud of the job that I do, but I did not call anyone names of color, of their race. And, you know, I’ve had to leave all of that out of court…because at the end of the day the real problem was, I took my upset and my, the end of my wrath came out on the police, which was wrong.”
The airline denies Campbell’s suggestion that any such slurs were slung:
“BA does not accept any allegations of racism. We are proud of our diversity. We have strict policies concerning dignity at work and have long-standing training programs on diversity and inclusion.”
In other words, Naomi, kiss those frequent flyer miles good-bye.

Naomi Campbell Pleads Guilty
She’s a dream on the fashion show runway but a nightmare when it comes to her temper. And earlier today (Friday June 20th) Naomi Campbell pled guilty to assaulting two police officers in London’s Heathrow Airport.
The charges she copped to, stemming from an incident this past April, were two counts of assaulting a police constable, one count of using threatening, abusive words or behavior to cabin crew, and one count of using insulting, abusive, threatening behavior or disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
Crown Prosecution Service director Nazir Afzal said in his statement, “Ms. Campbell was aggressive, hostile and violent to people who were simply trying to do their jobs. Her behavior fell far short of what is acceptable.”
And talk about swift justice, Campbell may discover her fate by day’s end. A source told press, “The magistrate has asked for a report from the probation service prior to sentencing. It is expected that she will be sentenced this afternoon.”
Naomi could face six months jail and a $10,000 fine for each assault charge.
Campbell Cops to Flight Fight, Avoids Jail
Thanks to Naomi Campbell, British Airways doesn’t actually need to be airborne to encounter major turbulence.
The trouble-prone catwalker pleaded guilty today to assaulting two police officers after causing a stink aboard a BA flight at London’s Heathrow Airport in April.
But she managed to avoid the maximum six-month jail term. Instead she was sentenced to 200 hours of community service for the air-rage ruckus, fined $4,600 and ordered to pay $400 to each of the police officers she attacked and $300 to the captain of the flight.
Sporting shades and a dark suit and flanked by a guardian, the 38-year-old Campbell arrived at Uxbridge Magistrates Court in a chauffeur-driven Mercedes and pushed her way through hordes of paparazzi and press without addressing their questions.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service, when she finally made it inside, she copped to four chargestwo counts of assaulting a constable, one each of disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and of using threatening, abusive words or behavior to cabin crew. Two additional counts of assault and using threatening words were dismissed.
The meltdown happened April 3, after the British supermodel boarded a plane bound for Los Angeles and became upset with crew members when one of her bags apparently went missing. The incident coincided with the opening of British Airways’ new terminal at Heathrow, which resulted in major problems with the baggage system.
After excoriating airport police who were attempting to restore orderand even spitting on one officerCampbell was escorted off the aircraft and taken into custody. She was released on bail eight hours later.
Outside the court, Campbell’s rep, Alan Edwards, told reporters the tempestuous model acknowledged her role in the row.
“She feels what happened was regrettable and she has come to court today to put her side of the story,” he said.
While British Airways refused to comment directly on Campbell’s case, the carrier is said to have formally banned her from traveling on future flights.
Campbell is no stranger to anger-management issues.
Last year, she was ordered to mop floors with New York’s Department of Sanitation as part of her five days’ community service for whacking her then-assistant with a BlackBerry, the latest in several documented smackdowns with her apparently beleaguerered staff.
Naomi Campbell Can Trust Her Agent
Naomi Campbell has the best agent ever. Ever.
When the drama queen fell into the arms of a woman on the streets of Capri while on vacation, Naomi’s agent supposedly denied reports of tipsiness to the British press, insisting, “Naomi was playing this trust game, where you fall into a friend’s arms.”
We know whose arms we’d want at the ready if unflattering photos surfaced of usbut not sure we’re falling for your line about Naomi playing a game.
