Spike’s new cop show

Spike TV logo Get more action Spike TV has a new cop show called Real Vice Cops Uncut. The show, which is taped in Memphis and Orlando, will rides along with real police officers involved in the world of narcotics, prostitution and gambling. It will be about undercover vice divisions and give audiences a taste of just how dangerous and unpredictable it is.

It sounds interesting, but I have to point out one thing. Isn’t the mission compromised when the guy with the camera crew walks in? Just a thought.

About the security of the operations, Jim Romanovich, President of Worldwide Media and Entertainment for ATI (Associated Television International, production company for Vice Cops), explains that the show doesn’t jeopardize the work of these officers: “We have been allowed exclusive access to various vice divisions to see how their undercover operations really work without compromising the security of its officers who have to remain undercover. In this series, you will see all the action and intense situations you could ever expect. This is not Crockett and Tubbs. There is no Porsche, houseboat, or pastel wardrobe.” I’m not convinced.

The six half-hour episodes of Real Vice Cops Uncut will premiere on August 6th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. What do you think? Will you be watching?

Steven Tyler: Dude Looks Like a Liar

Steven Tyler

People were scratching their heads last month when Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler said he checked into rehab to recover from foot surgery.

Now, the 60-year-old rocker reveals that he was actually fighting a dependency on pain pills and sleep medication prescribed post-surgery.

“To have your feet done, to have your leg done, you have to be on narcotics. You have to be on sleep aids at night,” he told the Associated Press. “I just put the brakes on and checked into detox and just pulled the plug on all of it.”

The surgery repaired longtime foot injuries caused by 30-plus years of high-energy stage performances with the Grammy-winning rock ’n’ roll band.

Tyler has been sober since 1986, when he went to rehab for drugs and alcohol.

Bobby Cannavale is the new Cupid

Bobby CannavaleJeremy Piven was unavailable this time around, busy as he is playing Ari in Entourage, so writer/producer Rob Thomas went in another direction. Taller, by four inches. Thomas has chosen Bobby Cannavale for the title role in Cupid for ABC.

Cannavale, an Emmy-award winner for his guest turn on Will & Grace as Vince, will be Trevor Hale in Cupid. He’s described as manic and charming and firmly believing in the fact that he is the real Roman god of love, Cupid. His mission is to make 100 love matches so he can earn the right to leave Earth and return to Mount Olympus. ABC is behind this new pilot, an updated version of Thomas’ 1998 Cupid that didn’t make it past season one.

Bobby, by the way, is doing an arc on Cold Case, beginning this Sunday as narcotics detective Eddie Saccardo, a possible love interest for Lily (Kathryn Morris). Sounds like the Cupid casting means Lily’s not meant for a long-term love affair. Guess she’ll have to take comfort in her pussycat — again. Unless Cupid never makes it out of the pilot stage, which is not unheard of. Last season, Cannavale did a pilot called M.O.N.Y. that went nowhere.
