Cate Blanchett’s SK-II Luncheon
Cate Blanchett’s SK-II Luncheon
Coming off of an Oscar night in which she was nominated for both best actress and best supporting actress, Cate Blanchett extended her stay in the States with a visit to the SK-II Luncheon at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles on Monday.
The 38-year-old, who has a baby-on-the-way via Andrew Upton, is the US face of the high-end skin care line produced by Procter & Gamble.
Joining Cate at the luncheon were “Shivesh Ram, Vice President/GM Global SK-II and Larry Bruce, Vice President and General Manager of Saks Fifth Avenue Beverly Hills.”
“Our desire to work with Ms. Blanchett globally was a natural progression for the brand,” Ram told press, adding, “Since first using the products seven years ago, Cate has joined the millions of women around the world who have experienced SK-II. We’re delighted to have her expand her role within the SK-II family.”
Showtime shake-up; fewer films, more series?
Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM are launching a new premium cable channel next year that will likely strip Showtime of much of its theatrical movie content. Showtime was originally a sister company to Paramount until 2006 when Viacom president and CEO Les Moonves split the two companies into separate entities.
One of the reasons cited for this move was by the Showtime’s vice president of corporate public relations Stu Zakim. He stated that the network no longer wanted to pay “outrageous license fees” for theatrical content.
This is actually a natural progression for the bigger name cable channels. As they develop more original content, they no longer need to rely on the movie studios to provide content for them. This is a far cry from the early days of cable television when HBO and Showtime were known as the channels from which you could watch R-rated movies in the comfort of your own home.
Top 16 Perform ’80s songs; Blake Lewis to drop by
In what seems a natural progression, word has come down the line that this week’s American Idol theme is hits from the ’80s. I think this may prove to be our best week yet, from the contestants’ perspective. Some of the contestants were even alive in the ’80s and may have some real connection to and love for the music. I think it was a disconnect and unfamiliarity with the ’60s and ’70s tunes that hurt some of them these past two weeks.
In keeping with the ’80s theme, it makes sense to bring in last season’s runner up Blake Lewis to debut his new single “How Many Words” on Thursday’s results show. After all, he proclaimed the sounds of the ’80s a huge influence in the creation of his debut album, Audio Day Dream. And American Idol always loves to trumpet in past contestants to try and help their albums sell. And they do have an hour to fill. I think we can expect to see more Idol alumni this year than ever before.
