Alfre Woodard joins new Christian Slater series
Alfre Woodard has an exciting new role on the upcoming NBC drama My Own Worst Enemy. The Emmy winner is set to play Christian Slater’s boss in the spy series, which premieres this fall. If you followed TV’s coverage of the upfronts, you already know that the drama focuses on a man (Slater) living two different lives: the life of an ordinary suburban father named Henry and the life of a spy named Edward.
Woodard’s character, Mavis Heller, is Edward’s “tough and astute boss” at headquarters. Like Edward, Mavis is leading a double life as well. Her alter ego, Helen, will be a part of Henry’s suburban existence. My Own Worst Enemy premieres on Monday, September 29.
Apart from Christian Slater, Alfre Woodard’s other co-stars include Mike O’Malley, Yara Martinez, and Saffron Burrows. I’m becoming more curious about this show, especially now that Alfre Woodard has joined the cast. My Own Worst Enemy is airing after Heroes and Chuck on Monday nights, and it’ll be interesting to see how the dramatic side of the spy world compares to Chuck’s quirkier version.
Kristen Bell Clears Up Hayden’s Dating Rumors
Kristen Bell Clears Up Hayden’s Dating Rumors
With Hollywood romance as fleeting as it is, sometime you gotta go right to the source to confirm rumors. And Kristen Bell was more than happy to report on the status of her co-stars supposed hookup.
The new Heroes starlet was in attendance for the Alliance for Children’s Rights benefit in Beverly Hills earlier this week. She definitively denied that her co-stars Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia were anything more than friends.
Bell told press, “They’re just great friends. They’re not dating.” And it sounds like singlehood is running rampant on the set of the NBC drama… Bell is without a beau as well.
She commented, “I’m taking single life moment by moment. It’s uncomfortable for me because I haven’t been single in a long time. I’m a homebody. I’m a Blockbuster girl at heart.”
Something tells us that with a look as hot as her career, Kristen won’t be single for long.
Gilbert Heads Back to the Prairie
Nothing like someone who knows the lay of the land to make you feel right at home.
Melissa Gilbert, who played the precocious Laura Ingalls on the tear-jerking NBC drama Little House on the Prairie, has joined the upcoming Broadway production of Little House, which will begin previews at the Guthrie Theater July 26.
Opening night is scheduled for Aug. 15.
Gilbert, who practically grew up on the Little House set, spending nine years getting into scrapes, learning lessons and warming hearts as Laura, will step into the more mature role of Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, who was played by Karen Grassle in the series.
Stage veteran Steve Blanchard will star as Charles “Pa” Ingalls, the heart of the homestead originally embodied by the late Michael Landon.
Heroes Gets All Decked Out
Let’s see…We’ll trade you two Cheerleaders and an HRG for that mint-condition Haitian and a Nathan Petrelli.
Such could be the topic of conversation in living rooms and other bastions of fandom across the nation now that NBC Universal and sports-card titan Topps Co. have rolled out a new line of autorgraphed Heroes trading cards featuring the superevolved (as well as the normal folks who just want what’s best for them) characters and scenes from the hit NBC drama.
Ninety cards have been produced so far and are in stores now, available in packs of seven?although modified-DNA enthusiasts can also spring for the deluxe 24-card “hobby box” sets, which include swatches of costume material, sketch cards and other bonus bits that any true fan will want for his or her collection.
“The fervent Heroes fan base and the show’s compelling on-air visuals are powerful trading-card ingredients,” said Ira Friedman, Topps’ VP of publishing.
“Add the engaging storylines and multiseasonal episodes to the mix, and Heroes has the potential to become a major mainstay in the collectible card category.”
Although it’s hard to remember exactly what those engaging storylines are, considering the show has been off the air since December, when season two was hacked in half because of the writers’ strike, the third season of Heroes is scheduled to premiere in September.
Until then, however, we can stock up on plastic sleeves and preserve Claire, Hiro, Sylar, Peter, Mohinder, Parkman and others for posterity.
The second round of cards, featuring Niki, West, Molly and many more, is due out in July.
