Brooke Shields’ New Show

Brooke Shields’ New Show

She’s had such a long-running, far-reaching career, and Brooke Shields’ latest project, a TV show called “Lipstick Jungle” sounds like a winner.  She was on the set yesterday, looking happy as ever.

In “Lipstick Jungle” Shields plays a character named Wendy.  And according to Brooke, there are many similarities between herself and her character.

She told press, “Wendy, she’s a studio exec. Runs a film studio and she has two kids. She’s basically the main breadwinner and that creates a nice conflict. She’s a good mom and she’s very harried all the time and very smart and very ambitious and struggling to balance. There are three women and they rely on one another and their friendship. They lean on one another. They’re funny and smart and they look fabulous.”

Brooke commented, “I feel a certain kinship to her because I recognize how difficult it is, and every day is a new challenge and you don’t always succeed but that doesn’t mean you don’t try. She’s optimistic and I am too. There’s a humor to her which I have as well and I think without it we fall apart.”

A New Yorker herself, Shields talked about raising kids in the Big Apple.  “When we’re uptown we definitely go to Central Park and we don’t do too much shopping around the city. We like walking around visiting the theater and we have a lot of friends from my Broadway days. We play in the park and love going downtown to Soho. I was born and raised uptown so I found myself going downtown a lot.”

Nicole Richie: Jewelry Designer

Nicole Richie: Jewelry Designer

She tackled the world of Reality TV, and just became a brand new mother, but apparently Nicole Richie already needs a new challenge: jewelry design.

The “Simple Life” babe was spotted on her way to Mo’s Fine Food restaurant yesterday for a lunch date with a girlfriend.

And it looks like Nicole is taking her fashion cues from Sienna Miller, sporting a hippie-chic ensemble consisting on of a blue, green, and black summer dress with retro shades and a pair of sandals.

As for her upcoming jewelry line, “It’s all costume jewelry. I like to play with jewelry and mix and match. [I’m working with] this really talented woman named Shelley Gibbs. She’s an artist and she sketches everything.”

And when it comes to baby Harlow, Miss Richie keeps first things first.  “Everyone’s been really mellow and able to work around my schedule. If I need to go feed the baby, I do it.”

Beth Ehlers bolts Guiding Light for All My Children

EhlersYou could call it bailing from a sinking ship, assuming you think the current changes on Guiding Light are something like being on the Titanic. On the other hand, it may just be a talented actress spreading her wings to take on a new challenge. However you couch it, Guiding Light star Beth Ehlers is bolting the CBS soap for ABC’s All My Children. She’ll be assuming the role of Liza Colby Chandler, the part most recently played by Marcy Walker (who played Tangie back on Guiding Light in 1993).

This is the second major exit from GL, and it seems that the bottom line reason for the departures is the bottom line. Cost cutting across the board at the P&G soaps — GL and As the World Turns — have squeezed the actors salaries. Martha Byrne and Scott Bryce left ATWT in recent months, reportedly in contract disputes, and Ricky Paull Goldin departed GL last month and was quickly snatched up by All My Children. Just like Ehlers.

And how coincidental that they were a major couple in Springfield. They even won a special Daytime Emmy in 2002 as America’s Favorite Couple — GL’s Harley and Gus. Well, now they can spark that same chemistry in Pine Valley. Move over, Erica and Adam and Tad and Joe, you’ve got company.

A little over a year ago, I interviewed Beth for TV Week, and she talked about her tenure on GL. “It was the only show she’d ever appeared on, and she’s been there on and off since 1987. “When I came on 20 years ago, I very quickly learned the Guiding Light was based on family and relationships. It was a real actors’ show. I feel lucky to have been a part of it. This is the only show that I’ve ever done and I’m proud of that.” Now she can see what it’s like to be proud of being part of All My Children. She’s expected to start early this summer.

A new challenge for Obama fans

obama capitalFile this under the category of do-it-yourself politics. In this YouTube.com era, it was only a matter of time before it happened. MoveOn.org has joined forces with Oscar-winners Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Oliver Stone, multiple Grammy-winner John Legend and author Naomi Wolf to a TV ad contest for Barack Obama. The contest is called “Obama in 30 Seconds,” in which Barack supporters are being asked — challenged — to come up with half-minute videos that focus on what it is about the Senator from Illinois that inspires them. The winning entry will be shown on national television.

If you’re interested — or know someone who is — the ads must be submitted to the Obama in 30 Seconds website. The videos have to be submitted between March 27th and April 1st. Beginning April 4th, 3.2 million MoveOn members and the public will have a chance to vote on which ads advance to the finals.

On April 10th, the finalists will be announced. A slew of celebrity judges have been formed to chose the winner. The panel of “experts” include Affleck, Damon, Legend, Stone, actor/director Steve Buscemi, Entourage star Adrian Grenier, civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson, entrepreneur Russell Simmons, musician Eddie Vedder, and a few other biggies.

On April 17th, the winning ad, and ad-maker, will be announced. MoveOn Political Action will purchase air time on national TV to air the ad, and the winning ad-maker will receive $20,000 in video equipment — presumably to make more videos.
