New Music From Guns N’ Roses

Axl Rose

Guns N' Roses fans, the more-than-a-decade-in the-making album Chinese Democracy really does seem to be getting very close to a release date.

No, really. This is what I'm hearing:

Axl Rose & Co. have recently been letting people, music industry honchos, tastemakers and so forth, listen to six new tracks, according to a music executive who has heard the songs.

The exec raved about the music. “It’s really good,” he said. “Axl’s voice sounds exactly the same, but the songs sound contemporary. You expect it to be a trainwreck, but it’s not.”

Reps didn’t talk about exact release dates, according to my source, but they implied it could still happen by the end of the year. (Yes, I know we've heard this before.)

Just last week, Rose announced on the official Guns N’ Roses website that the band hired a new management team headed by heavyweights Irving Azoff and Andy Gould.

The band’s last original recordings, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, were released in 1991. Since their debut in 1985, they have sold an estimated 90 million albums worldwide.

30 Rock’s ’Kenneth’ in Mariah Carey’s new video - VIDEO

jack mcbrayer; mariah careyMariah Carey totally digs 30 Rock, especially the Kenneth the Page character. She digs him so much, that he stars in her new music video, called “Touch My Body”. In it, the actor Jack McBrayer seems to channel Louis Skolnick from Revenge of the Nerds. He shows up at the Carey mansion to fix a computer and then he goes off into La La Land, thinking about his dream date with Mariah Carey. Activities include pillow fights, laser tag, and frisbee.

Maybe I’m grumpy today or something because I didn’t find it all that funny. It was quaint, really. The Nerd envisions himself with Mariah Carey doing all her sexy poses and wearing tight/short dresses, like in all her videos. I think the problem is that Mariah Carey didn’t do anything different. She shook her booty while goofy things happened around her– like Jack McBrayer wearing a viking hat during a pillow fight. While I liked the Fiona Apple and Kanye West videos with Zach Galifianakis, I think this one is over-the-top and tries too hard to be funny. The video is directed by Brett Ratner.

Check it out, the video is after the jump:

Paula Abdul’s new music video - VIDEO

Paula Abdul - I’m not ashamed to admit it. I grew up with the Paula Abdul vs. Janet Jackson rivalry. Janet had a better singing voice, but Paula was the better dancer. Now, here it is six hundred years or so later and while Janet’s never stopped recording, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen Ms. Abdul sing and dance. If you missed her Super Bowl performance, now she and Randy Jackson have released the official music video for their new single “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow.”

For a woman of 45, Paula looks and moves great. Her vocals are about what they’ve always been, but nevertheless this has a great dance hook and should do very well in the club scene. Maybe this will be the beginning of a full-fledged comeback for her.

I’ve always liked Paula Abdul and I’m glad to see she hasn’t given up her first career completely. I think there was some very nice choreography in here and it’s definitely fun to see Randy rocking the bass in the back there. This is the debut single of Randy Jackson’s Music Club, Vol. 1 which hits shelves on March 11, 2008. And while the rest of it is filled with the likes of Joss Stone and Jason Mraz, Idol fans will be excited to know that joining Paula on the album are both Katharine McPhee and Elliott Yamin, singing together on “Real Love.”

Overall, this is a pretty typical dance video like you’d see anywhere. Nothing spectacular or special but it certainly serves it purpose. Apologies that it’s so tiny. That said, the closing shot is completely gratuitous and unnecessary … and I think it made me die a little inside.

Heidi and Spencer Celebrate Music Video

Heidi and Spencer Celebrate Music Video

Celebrating the recent release of her new music video “Higher”, Heidi Montag and producer boyfriend Spencer Pratt enjoyed a day of shopping and fine dining around town on Tuesday (February 5).

The Hills couple started things off by paying a visit to the uber-trendy Rumor boutique in Sherman Oaks, where Heidi tried on a number of slinky dresses while Spencer looked on, sneaking in a kiss here and there.

While at Rumor, the duo took time to do a segment for Perez Hilton’s new TV show, where they talked about her single and the ongoing feud with Lauren Conrad.

After spending a couple of hours in the store, Heidi and Spencer left laden with goodies. Afterwards, the two shared a romantic meal at the trendy Katsuya restaurant in Studio City before calling it a night.
