Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
It’s almost time for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show to hit Los Angeles. And all of the models, as well as the Spice Girls, are ready for the gig.
The Victoria’s Secret models made a grand entrance yesterday, touching down at LAX from New York City. And Heidi Klum led the way, as the VS show’s resident veteran.
They’ll be filming the show tomorrow (Wednesday November 14th), although it won’t hit the CBS airwaves until December 4th.
As a special treat, the Spice Girls will be performing, unveiling their new single, “Headlines.” “We’re going to be performing one of our old songs and one of our new songs, ‘Headlines’, and it’s going to be very beautiful,” said Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm.
According to Chisholm, the Girls are hoping to don a little naughty lingerie, themselves. “We’re hoping to get ourselves into some Victoria’s Secret underwear for the show.”
Jonas Brothers Rock Washington DC
Jonas Brothers Rock Washington DC
The Jonas Brothers were busy last night doing what they do best - entertaining a sold-out crowd in Washington DC as part of their Look Me in the Eyes tour.
Joe, Nick and Kevin took to the stage amid wild cheers from the Patriot Center fans, who were pushing forward to get just a little bit closer to their rocker idols.
In related news, the brothers are getting anxious to release their third album, and are debuting four new songs on the tour.
“We’re so excited about it,” Nick said. “It’s really sounding great. We have some more Elvis Costello and Prince influences on it, and some of the Rascals and the Animals. And the song writing is mature as far as chord structure. But, not lyrical content, we’re not drifting off into the abyss.”
He added, “We’re just the same guys writing about the same type of, either heartbreak or great times or whatever it is. But we’ve really kind of tried to expand our horizon when it comes to the style of music and all that. So it’s really cool. We’re happy with the way it sounds.”
Move Over, Miley?
Is the onscreen competition between Miley Cyrus and fellow tween Disney sensation Selena Gomez about to get real?
I’m told Disney executives are so worried about Cyrus’ recent controversies that, more than ever, they want to make Gomez an even bigger star.
The 15-year-old Gomez now stars in the Disney Channel hit Wizards of Waverly Place, but last year she appeared on two episodes of Hannah Montana as Mikayla, one of Hannah’s pop star rivals.
“Selena sings and acts and is really young,” a source reports. “She is going to be the next Miley Cyrus. [Disney executives] really want this.”
Next up for Gomez is the Warner Bros. movie Another Cinderella Story, scheduled for a fall release. No surprise, but I’ve just learned that Gomez has recorded several new songs for the flick.
“The studio has high hopes for this,” says my source.
But a Disney rep insists there are no plans to try and replace Cyrus in any way with Gomez.
“We are fortunate to work with a host of young actors and actresses who are each unique and making their own trajectory based on their talent,” the rep said via email this morning. “However, Wizards of Waverly Place is a bona fide hit with kids and families, and licensees and retailers are indeed interested in the series. As for Selena, she deserves all the success that’s coming her way.”
Note to Gomez: If Vanity Fair comes calling, wait a few years before calling them back.
Flight of the Conchords test new songs on tour
This fan post from Oh No They Didn’t! contains two super-sneaky clips of new songs from Flight of the Conchords’ recent Milwaukee tour stop. The audio isn’t top-notch, obviously, what with all the audience laughter, echo-y acoustics, and the overwhelming roar of girls everywhere doing that thing where they take off their bra under their shirt and then fling it on the stage. Chick magnets, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement are. Anyway, we still have a long while to wait before their self-titled HBO show returns for a second season. Perhaps we can give a listen to this new material and start thinking about what January 2009 will bring.
The first clip is entitled “Ex-Girlfriend,” which is about Jemaine’s exes in a choir. Judging by the lyrics, Jemaine will fall head over heels for a lady in the next season. Lovingly whispering, “I hope that you will stick around” is quite different from growling, “In the buff, being rude, doin’ stuff with the food…” Poor Coco. I can totally see an ex-girlfriend montage of all the different ways Jemaine has gotten dumped in the past.
Favorite line: “… Mona / You told me that you were in a coma / Stan / You should have told me you were a man…”
There are a lot of ladies’ screaming in the second clip, so I can only imagine what kind of freakiness is actually going on during “Get Freaky.” Damn the lack of video. The song doesn’t sound quite as catchy as Season One’s own freaky song, “Business Time,” but things may change by the time the song makes it to the studio and the show.
Favorite part: [instrumental break; sudden crazed shrieking from female audience members]
Also, there is the chance that none of these songs will appear on the show, which would be a terrible tease. I seriously doubt the boys can afford to not use every bit of new material, as they do seem pressed for time and songwriting is no easy gig.
Flight of the Conchords also released an album of most of the songs from their show in late April and I absolutely recommend it. Despite the fact that “Bowie” still doesn’t sound quite as good as their live renditions, the album is a solid piece of work and a must for any fan or gentleman who wants to woo girls with “Ladies of the World.” Sexy stuff.
