Wanted: Buffy/Angel episode(s) to watch

Buffy and AngelOkay, I’m a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, but not a normal one. I’ve read all the comic books for both properties and seen the original movie that launched the phenomenon about three times over the years. And yet, for some reason I’ve never seen a full episode of either show.

When Buffy first came out, I lived in a city that didn’t have The WB. And by the time it was available to me I was already several years behind, and I hate coming into the middle of something. Then, for whatever reason, it has remained on my “to do” list over the years.

So where does that leave me for the Retro Squad Buffy/Angel week? I want to participate, but in a way I’m a newbie to the show. So how about you guys tell me a good episode to immerse myself into the world of the Buffy-verse? In fact, maybe one from each show? I’m hearing from the Squad that ’Hush’ is a good candidate.

This should be fun, as it’s kind of weird reading the new stuff as they come out in comics while only having the vaguest idea of what went on in the original series. I’ll get to see how it all began (well, I saw that I guess with the movie but you know what I mean!) It’ll be like, “Hey, that Dawn kid isn’t nearly as tall as she is in the comics” and “Isn’t Los Angeles supposed to be in hell?”

A “done in one” episode might be best, or some pivotal juncture that doesn’t require having seen sixty-two priors to keep up. Fill up the comments with what you think is a good one to introduce someone to the series and I’ll have my people contact your people to set up a time we can all sit down together and spend some quality time with “The Slayer.”

Joel Madden Starts His Baby’s Music Training Early

Joel Madden Starts His Baby's Music Training Early | Benji Madden, Joel Madden Expect Joel Madden and Nicole Richie’s offspring to be very well-rounded.

Daddy-to-be Madden has already started the child’s musical education, while his brother Benji claims the sports role.

“We play a lot of music around the house,” Madden, 28, told PEOPLE at Mets star David Wright’s Do the Wright Thing Gala in New York Thursday. “Old stuff, new stuff, classic stuff, movie soundtracks.”

Of Richie, 26, who is due in January, he added: “We’re excited, happy and spending a lot of time at home. … Just normal, couple-expecting-a-baby stuff.”

Joel’s brother and Good Charlotte bandmate is equally psyched for his new role in the family: Uncle. “I’m going to teach [the baby] about life,” he said. And sports. “I could coach the tee-ball team! Or teach them in soccer, whatever they want to do,” he said.

WonderCon: Star Wars - The Clone Wars

WonderCon: Star Wars - The Clone Wars

The director of fan relations of LucasFilm made a surprise appearance during the Warner Bros panel at WonderCon to present some footage from the upcoming Star Wars computer animated movie and television series. The Clone Wars will premiere on movie theater screens worldwide on August 15th, before continuing as a half hour computer animated series on the Cartoon Network and TNT this fall. The movie/series will bridge the gap between Episodes 2 and 3. Featuring a mix of familiar characters (Anakin, Obi-wan… etc) and new characters.

The short clip they premiered featured interview footage intercut with footage from the finished series. It was explained that the show will explore who is Anakin Skywalker, who was he, what was he like, and his brother-ship with Obi-wan. A new female character is also introduced named Osoka (sp?), who is learning what it’s like to be a Jedi, and serves as a touchstone for the audience. The series will also feature a lot of clones (hey, it is the Clone Wars after all), and it is explained that a few of the Clone troopers have been made identifiable with their own individual personalities. I know some stills and footage have already been shown online, but the new stuff shown during the clip is very impressive. I can imagine the production costs for this half hour series will be through the roof.

I’m sure we’ll find out more during the LucasFilm panel later in the day.

Katharine McPhee’s Sexy Stuff

Katharine McPhee’s Sexy Stuff

If you want to see Katharine McPhee get downright sexy, just pick up a copy of the new Stuff Magazine.  The singer is the cover girl of the August 2007 issue.

Katharine gets pretty personal about her life in the interview with the magazine. “There are different sides of me. On American Idol, people saw the side that is very professional and put together. But there’s this other side of me that’s outgoing, energetic, and wild—and did really stupid things in college.”

McPhee also opens up about her relationships with older men. “When I turned 21, I thought it was a good age to explore. You’re no longer a teenager, so it’s OK [to date older guys]. I gravitated toward them, and I love them. They’re just wiser, and they’re less about themselves and more about you.”

And she’s candid about her desire to settle down and pop out some kids.  “Oh yeah. I want to have, like, 15 babies. I’ve always wanted to be pregnant. One year for Halloween, I decided to be pregnant, so I got this nun costume, and I put a big belly under it. I showed my parents and said I want to go to school as a pregnant nun. My dad sat me down and said, “Katharine, you can’t!”
