Blake Lively Hams Up Old Navy Event

Blake Lively Hams Up Old Navy Event

Yes, she’s on one of our favorite shows, “Gossip Girl,” but last night Blake Lively let her star shine for another purpose- promoting the “New Old Navy” line.

The “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” babe was spotted at NYC’s Eyebeam Atelier looking like the up-and-coming hottie that she is.

And speaking of up-and-coming, Blake has been reportedly named ‘sexiest newcomer’ by Victoria’s Secret big wigs.

She looked stunning in a classic black on black ensemble, with an embroidered-neckline sweater and some sexy-but-conservative trousers.

When you’re trying to spruce up an old brand, it never hurts to have plenty of celebrity presence at the launch party.  And with Heroes’ Hayden Panettiere and Kristen Bell at the helm for the “New Old Navy” event last night, held at New York City’s Eyebeam Atelier, they’re off to a good start.

Miss Hayden jetted up to NYC, after her “Save the Whales Again” schedule in Washington D.C. was complete, to attend the event.  She wore a very classy cream blouse with a long black skirt, and some super-red lipstick, circa 1940s.

Meanwhile, her “Heroes” co-star Kristen Bell looked playful in a grey/black short-sleeved, knee-length dress with matching peep-toe heels.

Old Navy is trying to re-corner the market on discount designer fashions, competing with brands like H&M, by giving itself a facelift with some sexy new fashion-forward options.  An Old Navy rep told press, “We’re more fashion-forward and on-trend than ever before.  But don’t worry - we still carry all the great basics that customers know and love.”

She started off the week in Washington DC defending the whales.  Then she jetted up to New York City to promote the “New Old Navy” re-launch.  And just last night Hayden Panettiere was back in Los Angeles to attend a big movie premiere.

The Paramount Theatre in Hollywood, California was the place to be for Heroes sightings last night.  Hayden was on the scene to check out the premiere of “The Spiderwick Chronicles.”

And she was dressed to kill, sporting a cute red short-sleeved dress, complete with a sparkly gold handbag and matching strappy heels.

According to a press release, “The Spiderwick Chronicles” sounds like quite an adventure for the whole family: “From the beloved best-selling series of books comes “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” a fantasy adventure for the child in all of us. Peculiar things start to happen the moment the Grace family (Jared, his twin brother Simon, sister Mallory and their mom) leave New York and move into the secluded old house owned by their great, great uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Unable to explain the strange disappearances and accidents that seem to be happening on a daily basis, the family blames Jared. When he, Simon and Mallory investigate what’s really going on, they uncover the fantastic truth of the Spiderwick estate and the creatures that inhabit it.”

The fashion of Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl
Every TV season, there is at least one scripted show in which clothes characters wear almost become as important as the characters themselves. I remember when Sex and the City was still offering fresh episodes and I was writing spoilers about the series, some of my readers emailed me asking for information and set pictures of what the ladies would be wearing in upcoming episodes. I received the same type of emails when The O.C. was on the air: fans wanted to know what Marissa and Summer would be wearing so they could try to find the clothes in stores. That information was almost as critical to them as knowing if Marissa and Ryan would hook/break up!

This year, a few series tried to be fashionable such as Lipstick Jungle, which had a partnership with Maybelline and even offered fashion tips during commercial breaks and on the show’s website. However, when I surf the web on general TV websites and boards, the fashion talks seem to be directed more towards one show: Gossip Girl.

On this CW series, about teens from the Upper East Side, fashion is important business. Imagine the drama if Blair showed up wearing clothes bought at Wal-Mart! The horror! Her life would be over and her mother, a fashion designer, would surely disown her on the spot. The show’s official website even has a fashion section sponsored by Old Navy to tell teens where to shop and what to buy in order to be as fashionable as their favorite characters.

Gossip GirlKnowing the importance of fashion on Gossip Girl, AOL decided to take a closer look at the clothes the characters wear and came up with a hits and misses list. This list, filled with pictures of the GG fashion, offers comments about various styles seen on the show from uniforms to evening wear. For example, AOL deemed the mother and daughter look, on the right, as one of the worst. I must agree. What was Eleanor thinking?! Some of the styles shown in that gallery are really nice while others are so ugly that they may cause nightmares. So beware!

Do you think AOL got it right in its Gossip Girl fashion hits & misses gallery? What’s your favorite and least favorite GG look?

Gossip Girl returns this Monday with fresh episodes.
