Jonas Bros Jonesing for 3-D
As goes Hannah Montana, so goes the Disney nation.
Following on the heels of Miley Cyrus' successful (and 100 percent Leibovitz-free!) celluloid outing last year, fellow tween-friendly act the Jonas Brothers will be getting the 3-D treatment with a concert film of their upcoming Burning Up tour.
The shaggy-haired siblings served as the opening act for Cyrus last year and subsequently made their mark on the big screen in her blockbuster Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour.
Their film will follow the same template, combining documentary behind-the-scenes takes with concert footage from their North America tour, kicking off in July. It's slated for a 2009 release.
"We can't wait to start working on this film for our fans," Kevin, Joe and Nick said in a statement. "It's going to be awesome and we really want to bring a totally unique and different movie experience to everyone whether they've seen us live or not."
That is, as totally unique and different an experience as possible while mimicking Miley.
Bum Pipes Punk Alicia
Something's definitely going around the tour bus.
Thanks to a case of "swollen vocal cords," Alicia Keys has been forced to scrap a couple of dates on her As I Am tourjust a week after running mate Jordin Sparks was also sidelined for bum pipes.
Keys, 27, canceled last night's concert in Pittsburgh, as well as Thursday's show in Cleveland.
Reps for the 11-time Grammy winner say Keys "is currently being treated by a physician" and should be ready to go for Saturday's show in Columbus, Ohio.
Tickets for the scuttled concerts will be refundable at the respective venues; promoters also promise Cleveland fans will have their tickets honored at the Columbus gig.
Opening act Sparks bailed on the road show last week, due to a more severe condition, vocal cord hemorrhage. The 18-year-old Idol champ hopes to rejoin the tour next month.
Jordin Sparks Silenced—for Now
Since winning last year's American Idol, Jordin Sparks has been performing non-stop. Which, as it turns out, wasn't such a great idea.
Sparks is being forced to sit out the opening dates of Alicia Keys' North American tour due to what was described as an acute vocal cord hemorrhage condition.
"Jordin Sparks is on vocal rest and is expected to make a full and complete recovery," a spokesman for the Zomba Label Group, Sparks' recording home, said in a statement Monday. "She looks forward to joining Alicia Keys on tour in May."
The label did not know when exactly Sparks would be back on the road. The tour, which kicked off last Saturday in Virginia, runs through July. Sparks was scheduled to be Keys' opening act.
Also unknown was whether Sparks, as befitting Idol tradition, would be up for singing on the show's May 21 season finale. Fox said Monday it didn't have a set lineup yet.
News of Sparks' vocal problems was apparently first made known by Penn State University, which announced last week that a Sparks solo concert set there for Sunday was canceled.
Sparks' doctors informed the university of the condition, it said, and noted that without rest the 18-year-old risked "permanent vocal cord damage."
A vocal cord hemorrhage, or bleeding in the vocal cord, "can be a serious problem," according to the Penn Center for Voice at Pennsylvania Hospital's Website.
The condition is described by the hospital as "a complication of laryngitis caused when a person who has laryngitis uses their voice at the height of the infection."
The diagnosis jibes with Zomba's, which, in its statement, said "Sparks has been going non-stop over the past two years."
Per the hospital Website, treatment for vocal cord hemorrhage includes rest, fluids, antibiotics and/or steroids. In severe cases, it said, laser microsurgery could be warranted.
Sparks' label said she was going the restand reeducationroute.
"Now she's going through the normal course of learning how to manage and care for her voice," the statement said.
Since defeating Blake Lewis for the Idol crown last May, Sparks has toured with her fellow finalists from the show, belted at the Super Bowl and recorded her first album. Earlier this month, she appeared on Idol's charity fundraiser, Idol Gives Back, dueting with Chris Brown on their hit, "No Air."
Apparently, she should have stuck to "The Sounds of Silence."
Rihanna: Lookin’ Sexy in San Jose
Rihanna: Lookin’ Sexy in San Jose
Rihanna was looking in fine form as the much anticipated “Glow in the Dark” tour continues to get underway - stopping at the HP Pavilion in San Jose on Saturday (April 19).
With Kanye West headlining, the Good Girl Gone Bad worked her stuff as the opening act. Also on the tour are up-and-comers Lupe Fiasco and N.E.R.D.
For the series of concerts, Rihanna is working with a stage set-up that includes light-up speaker stacks that glow yellow, pink and aqua.
“The singer and her dancers’ clothes were basic black accented by pink and lime neon; the entire presentation was very new wave, down to Rihanna’s bright pink lipstick,” reports Rolling Stone.
