Christian Bale: A "Kindred Spirit" to Heath Ledger
Christian Bale wants people to know Heath Ledger’s work as the twisted and morose Joker in The Dark Knight was just thatwork!
“I hope in a small way that The Dark Knight can be a celebration of his work,” Bale says in the new issue of Parade magazine. “Not like the hideous circus after he died, which I felt was an invasion of a private life. This movie is not a personal home video. This is what he did. I hope people will embrace that in the correct fashion.”
Bale misses his late costar dearly. “He was a unique character, a very infectious character,” he says. “He was a good man, and I was glad to have spent time with him…He was something of a kindred spirit to myself.”
Bale also opens up about his own life, including spending much of his childhood on the road because his mother was a circus dancer. These days, he lives a much more stable existence with his wife, Sibi, and their three-year-old daughter (whose name Bale refuses to reveal publicly).
“There’s a hard line you find in yourself when you become a parent, an absolute belief that cannot be questioned,” he says. “It’s something that you will kill and die for in a way that you never experienced before. I’ve always enjoyed the gray in life. This is an area of total black and white. This is something that is unquestionable.”
Should Mariah Carey Be Worried?
No doubt the queen of divas, Mariah Carey, doesn’t like everyone proclaiming that hot young upstart Leona Lewis is on the verge of knocking her off her music superstar throne.
Ms. Lewis, on the other hand, definitely doesn’t mind being compared to greats like Carey and Whitney Houston.
“It’s amazing,” the “Bleeding Love” hitmaker tells James Brady in Sunday’s Parade magazine. “It’s exceedingly gratifying, because they’re so great.”
Not so great, however, are the possible pitfalls of celebrity…
Lewis, 23, is doing her best not to cross over to the dark side à la Amy Winehouse.
“You can’t make your mistakes in private,” Lewis says of the fame game. “I have the advantage of a great support structure. I get honest opinions from my family and friends. They aren’t always telling me what I want to hear, but the truth helps keep my head straight.”
And for all you die-hard Lewis fans out there, you’ll be happy to know, Lewis has written more that 100 songs. She says, “I may sing some of them on a future release.”
Keri Russell Is Enjoying Family Life
Keri Russell Is Enjoying Family Life
Former Felicity star Keri Russell has backed her way out of the spotlight ever since becoming pregnant with her now 5-month-old son River.
The 31-year-old actress recently spoke to Parade magazine, filling staff writer James Brady in on how things have been going now that she’s married and tending to her little prince.
At the start of the interview, Keri told, “My husband came home early so I could meet you. I don’t have an aversion to nannies or baby-sitters, but in these early months there’s a control aspect to a baby—you want to do everything.”
Following a four year run on television, Keri took a few years off to relax and enjoy Greenwich Village. Since that time, she’s taken supporting roles in Mission: Impossible III, The Upside of Anger and a few other films before moving on to leading roles in Waitress and two upcoming films: August Rush, which is due out this month, and The Girl in the Park.
Yet, now that her son has been born, it looks like Keri is once again staying away from the set - this time to enjoy family life and help out with the construction of her new house.
When asked what she would do if a big offer came her way, Keri told, “With River so little and Shane (her husband) working on our new house, the offer would have to be terrific, perfect.”
Eva Longoria’s Night Out With Mario Lopez
Eva Longoria’s Night Out With Mario Lopez
While Tony Parker was busy winning a basketball game in Seattle, Mario Lopez accompanied the San Antonio Spurs stud’s lady, Eva Longoria, on a Sunday night dinner date.
Standing in for the absent husband, Mario and the Desperate Housewife, who happens to be a longtime pal, were spotted walking down the street on their way to celebrity favorite eatery Katsuya.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Parade magazine, Eva recently revealed that the women she looks up to in life are her mother and her sister Liza.
The Texan beauty tells, “Liza is mentally challenged. She was my hero growing up. It was a blessing to watch her overcome every obstacle - tying her shoes, putting on a shirt, getting out the front door. And yet she still had a job and would come home on the bus by herself and help with dinner. You could only imagine the hurdles she encountered every minute of the day. Liza was a role model to get me ready for life in Hollywood.”
Not to forget the woman who raised her, Longoria adds, “My mother is the most non-judgmental person in the world. When I said, ‘I’m going to Los Angeles to be an actress’, she told me, ‘All right. I hope that makes you happy.’”
