Claire Danes Style Alert
Claire Danes Style Alert
Back in the 1990’s, Claire Danes was the poster child for social outcasts on her show “My So-Called Life.” And after her appearance at yesterday’s Motion Picture Club Awards, she may be the face of the fashionably challenged.
The “Romeo and Juliet” actress was seen wearing an outfit that would quite possibly make a homeless woman turn her head and offer Danes a garment of her own.
It was a mix between French maid-gone-wrong, and a peasant from Oliver Twist. Danes’ grey dress had some sort of tie-dye “effect” around the collar, as well as at the bottom of the outfit.
It may have something to do with the fact that she’s been starring in Pygmalion as a Cockney flower girl masquerading as a high society, tea-drinking lady of propriety. But there’s such thing as taking method acting too far.
Star Slams Babs for Spilling Secrets
For Star Jones, Barbara Walters' tell-all revelations about Jones' rapid weight loss felt like a knife to the gut.
The erstwhile View cohost has hit back at her former mentor after Walters blabbed in her recently published memoir Audition, that the View crew was, at Jones behest, forced to lie about her having gastric bypass surgery.
"It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book," Jones tells Us Weekly. "It speaks to her true character."
Walters repeated the Jones assertions on The Oprah Winfrey Show Tuesday, during which she also acknowledged having a secret fling with then married Senator Edward Brooke in the 1970s.
Walters' rep declined to comment today on Jones' statement.
During her stint on the gabfest, Jones had maintained that she lost more than 160 pounds in 2003 thanks to Pilates and better eating habits.
Per Walters' memoir, Jones rejected a proposal by Walters to have 20/20 dedicate an entire episode to chronicling the bypass and Jones' recovery, saying she didn't want to be the "poster child" for the operation.
Jones revealed on air in 2006 that she was leaving The View much to the surprise of Walters, who later said she was caught off guard by the announcement.
It wasn't until the following year that Jones finally came clean about having the procedure.
It's been a rough few months for Jones. Her TruTV show was canceled in February, and last month she filed for divorce from hubby Al Reynolds, whom she married in a televised, star-studded, corporate-sponsored 2004 wedding in New York City.
Lindsay Made Unwitting Poster Child for Drunkards
Here's guessing Lindsay Lohan won't be renewing her USA Today subscription.
The actress' attorney, Blair Berk, is blasting the ordinarily banal publication as "idiotic" for running a full-page advertisement Friday that uses Lohan's mugand mug shotto rail against an anti-DUI device.
The ad, bankrolled for by the American Beverage Institute, a trade group for liquor companies, states that ignition interlockers, which prevent a car from starting if booze is detected on the driver's breath, "are a great tool for getting hard-core drunk drivers off our roads" (presumably including Lindsay, or "Lindsey" as the print version misspells it) but otherwise infringes on civil liberties.
Making such devices standard would create a doomsday scenario, per the ad: "No more champagne toasts at weddings, no more wine with dinner, no more beers at a ballgame. Let's stop drunk driving without eliminating our traditions."
And that made Lohan's lawyer apoplectic.
"USA Today is idiotic to run such an irresponsible advertisement suggesting that drinking and driving is some kind of American 'tradition' we should protect," Berk said in a statement to News. "Not identifying that this ad was paid for by the liquor and restaurant industries is profoundly reckless.
"Drunk white businessmen, drunk housewives out for girls night out and drunk wedding parties should be kept off the roads of America. Lindsay Lohan fully endorses ignition interlock devices, which have been well-proven to save lives."
A spokeswoman for the American Beverage Institute said the mug shot was part of the public record and Lohan was fair game.
"The reason that we used Lindsay Lohan is because she's had multiple DUIs that have been high profile," American Beverage Institute managing director Sarah Longwell told the Associated Press, adding that the lobbying group took out the ad in response to several states enacting laws forcing first-time offenders to use interlockers.
"We needed to create the distinction for the public what someone with multiple DUIs looked like versus a low blood-alcohol-level first-time offender."
USA Today, meanwhile, sought to remain above the fray, calling its ad pages "a forum for competing views."
It’s official: Lindsay Lohan to guest on Ugly Betty finale
First How I Met Your Mother went for ratings gold by casting Britney Spears in an episode (and another). Ugly Betty is following suit - with none other than Hollywood’s poster child for poor choices and bad ideas: Lindsay Lohan.
Rich actually reported on this way back in November, but nothing came together. Blame the WGA Strike or the frequent trips to rehab … take your pick. Variety has now confirmed that Li Lo will guest star in the upcoming Ugly Betty finale. But it doesn’t stop there. The original plan for her arc to span three episodes has been upped to six. So she’s going to return next season for five more. Lohan will play an old schoolmate of Betty’s. The catch? Apparently she used to be a real bitch to the now successful Miss Suarez. Lohan’s character is down on her luck, and Betty being the nice gal that she is, can’t help but lend a hand.
This strikes me as a bit odd. I only casually follow this show, but it seems like ever since the show’s regime change, things have been a bit shaky. The casting of someone like Lindsay Lohan just doesn’t seem right to me. Thoughts?
