Bryce Dallas Howard is Kate Connor in Terminator 4

Warner Bros has decided to replace Charlotte Gainsbourg with Bryce Dallas Howard in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. The official reason for the change is a schedule conflict. If the actors strike were to happen the restart of Terminator 4 shooting would conflict with a French comedy Gainsbourg is attached to. Howard is now in negotiations to play Kate Connor, the wife of human resistance leader John Connor, played by Christian Bale.
The character of Kate was introduced in Terminator 3 as Kate Brewster, played by Claire Danes. If you remember correctly Brewster was actually the one who sent the last terminator (played by Arnold) back in time to protect John, as Connor was said to have been assassinated on July 4th 2032 by the same T-850. The film begins 14 years before his assassination.
McG is certainly “casting UP” for this film, and at least Howard doesn’t have to dye her hair for the part. Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of Ron Howard, is a classically trained sctress with a theater background. An alumna of Steppenwolf and The Actors Center, Howard is probably best known for her film roles in the M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village and Lady in the Water, and as a supporting role as Gwen Stacy in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Series in 2008 for As You Like It.
Principal photography began last month and the movie is currently filming at the Albuquerque Studios and on location throughout New Mexico. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins hits theaters on May 22nd 2009.

Terminating Time
Those of you with Memorial Day travel plans to New Mexico might want to reconsiderthe machines are rising once again…in the vicinity of Albuquerque.
Principal photography began earlier this month on the latest cyborg sequel, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, which features Batman battling the baddies this time out.
Set in 2018, the film stars Christian Bale as resistance leader John Connor, who discovers a time-traveling amnesiac (Sam Worthington) and must decide whether or not he’s an ally against the Terminator-producing computers of Skynet.
McG got the cameras rolling back on May 5, according to Warner Bros., with the bulk of filming taking place at the Albuquerque Studios and on location throughout the Land of Enchantment.
Terminator Salvation, the fourth film in the billion-dollar franchise and the launchpad for a new trilogy, is scheduled to be released May 22, 2009.
Provided the machines don’t wipe us out by then.
SAG Gets the Indie Spirit
Actors are used to working for scale on indies. Now they're just glad they'll be working.
The Screen Actors Guild sealed an interim deal with independent film producers on Wednesday that ensures its members will be able to finish some upcoming features even if the union authorizes a walkout.
According to Daily Variety, the pact doesn't apply to major Hollywood studios represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, with whom the guild launched contract talks on Tuesday. Instead, the new deal is with those indie producers employed at the Film Department, which is not an AMPTP signatory.
The "guaranteed completion contracts" means thesps will be allowed to fulfill the terms of their employment even if the Screen Actors Guild calls for an industry-wide strike when its contract with the studios expires on June 30.
Such a work stoppage, like the one authorized by the Writers Guild of America earlier this year, could paralyze film and television production and cost Tinseltown untold millions.
SAG hopes the interim accord will pressure the majors, giving actors a chance to draw an income outside the studio system. It also suggests the guild may be preparing to dig in for the long haul until its demands are met.
The strategy follows the WGA's game plan; writers made side deals with indie producers while fighting the AMPTP for better working conditions and a larger share of the new media pie.
The big five studiosDisney, Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount and Universaland their affiliated production companies have opted not to greenlight principal photography on upcoming films until both sides agree on a new contract.
Among the nine films which the Film Department have in the pipeline over the next several months: The Rebound, a romantic comedy starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and directed by Bart Freundlich set to shoot in New York next week; The Other Side of Paradise, a drama chronicling the love affair between F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda, set to roll in late summer or early fall; Law-Abiding Citizen, a thriller headlining Gerard Butler beginning Aug. 11; and Brothers in Arms, helmer Marcel Langenegger's World War II drama slated to start production by mid-August.
SAG and AMPTP kicked off formal contract negotiations Tuesday and so far both have remained tightlipped about the progress, if any, that's been made at the bargaining table.
Talks are scheduled to continue six days a week (no Sundays) until April 26. At that point the studios will turn their attention to sitting down with rival union the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, whose leaders voted to withdraw from a 27-year-old agreement to negotiate jointly with SAG.
TV Fest '08: X-Files Coming to the Big Screen Again!
The truth is not only out there, it's right in here. An all-new X-Files 2 trailer premiered Wednesday night at the Paley Center for Media's 25th Annual TV Fest. (The series clip reel starts it off, and the trailer starts around 2:50.) Then click in for more movie scoop from masterminds Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz.

CHRIS CARTER
What was it like shooting in Canada again after having moved the show from Vancouver to L.A. halfway through its run?
It was wonderful. I had so many friends up there, I had so many people that I've worked with up there. It wasn't a reunion exactly, because we could only hire one person for each job. So that was unfortunate. But I hope to be going back there again, not just for The X-Files, but for other things.
Yay! You've been very secretive about the movie, as is, of course, your writing privilege, but the casting was released of Amanda Peet and Xzibit. Was that on purpose or was that by accident? Was that a little tidbit you were putting out there?
I think it was on purpose/by accident. I think what happens is…a public relations machine starts up, and it's very hard to keep those things a secret. So I think what wasn't announced is what they are playing, the roles they're playing, and we'll announce that later on.
What's the title of the movie?
There is no title yet.
When will you decide that?
I've already decided, but whether or not it remains the title is up to Fox.
Annabeth Gish has said she might be in the third movie—have you planned the third movie?
No, I haven't even finished cutting this one.
Is it true that there is a love scene in the movie between Mulder and Scully? Thought I'd throw that out there.
Nice try.

FRANK SPOTNITZ
Have you completed principal photography?
Yes, we finished 10 days ago.
Excellent work. When can fans expect to see the official trailer for the movie in theaters?
I think…April.
Do you guys plan to go to Comic-Con this year, which is happening at about the same as the movie comes out in the theaters?
We're trying to figure that out right now.
What's the name of the movie?
We're trying to figure that out right now.
Is there going to be a subtitle? The X-Files 2: Something Something?
I think so. We don't have permission to say yet what it is. But hopefully in the next few weeks.
Will it be The X-Files 2: Where Is Mulder and Scully's Baby?
That's a good title. My lips are sealed.
Will the whereabouts of baby William be revealed in the movie in any way, shape or form?
It's not a mythology movie, but it is true to everything that has happened to Mulder and Scully. So we'll sort of acknowledge all the backstory that diehard fans are aware of. But it's not the sort of movie that carries on any of the mythology storylines. Not this time around.
