Jessica Alba Attends “Awake” NYC Premiere

Jessica Alba Attends “Awake” NYC Premiere

On a cool Wednesday night in New York City, Jessica Alba and her fellow cast members showed up at Chelsea West Cinema for the premiere of their new movie, Awake.

For the evening, which was presented by The New York Observer, Jessica turned heads in a sheer black lace dress. Others in attendance at the film’s premiere were co-stars Hayden Christensen and Lena Olin, along with former star of The OC, Rachel Bilson.

The plot summary for Awake tells: “The story focuses on a man (Christensen) who suffers “Anesthetic Awareness” (An occurrence where during surgery where not enough anesthetic medication for the patient’s body weight), and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during heart surgery. His wife (Alba) must wrestle with her own demons as a drama unfolds around them.”

The psychological thriller hits theaters on Friday, November 30th.

Bruce Greenwood is Captain Christopher Pike in Star Trek

Bruce Greenwood is Christopher Pike

James T. Kirk is not the Captain of JJ Abrams’ Enterprise, and rumored cast member Josh Lucas has signed to Edgar Allen Poe inspired psychological thriller Tell-Tale. So who will play Captain Christopher Pike in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot/prequel?

51 year-old Canadian actor Bruce Greenwood.

You might not recognize Greenwood by name, but he has appeared in over 40 films over the last 30 years, including roles in The Core, Hollywood Homicide, I Robot, Racing Stripes, Capote, Eight Below, Deja Vu, Todd Haynes’ I’m Not There, and the upcoming National Treasure sequel, Book of Secrets. He is also well known for his television appearances as Mitch Yost in John from Cincinnati, Roger Bingham in The Larry Sanders Show, and Thomas Veil in Nowhere Man.

Pike, played first by Jeffrey Hunter, was a Captain in the original Star Trek pilot, which was rejected. The character appeared in a later episode titled “The Menagerie” (played then by Sean Kenney). Pike is the first Captain of the Enterprise recognized in Star Trek canon (to go into the non-canon background would be boring). The character was severely injured while rescuing several cadets from a baffle plate rupture onboard a J-class training vessel, and appeared in “The Menagerie” confined to a wheelchair. The delta ray radiation made him mute and badly scarred, so the wheelchair is operated by brainwaves. Pike communicated through a light on the chair: one flash meaning “yes” and two flashes indicating “no”.

Production on JJ Abrams’ Star Trek began yesterday.

Daniel Myrick’s Believers Movie Trailer

Believers

I remember when The Blair Witch Project exploded onto the scene in the late 90’s, Hollywood was abuzz calling the Blair Witch filmmakers the future of Hollywood. While Blair Witch is likely responsible for the internet viral marketing ideas that we see today, the filmmakers have faded into obscurity. And it’s not for a lack of trying, both Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez have working hard to turn out, something, anything, that will latch on and find a following, without much luck. Daniel Myrick’s latest is a horror/psychological thriller titled Believers. The film follows David Vaughn and Victor Hernandez, two on duty emergency paramedics who are kidnapped and locked in an isolated building with a religious or scientific cult.

Honestly, the movie doesn’t look half bad for a direct-to-dvd horror flick. You can check out the movie trailer after the jump.

See Bug, Get Five Minutes of Hostel: Part II

Hostel: Part II

Lionsgate will premiere the first five minutes of Hostel: Part II attached to William Friedkin’s Bug, according to AITH. One of my good friends who has seen the movie (Bug) says it’s much more of a psychological thriller than the horror film it’s being advertised to be. And with the marketing campaign in full force, the buzz on the film is almost non-existent. It doesn’t help that the film is going head to head with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. This last minute move by Lionsgate is interesting (and possibly unprecedented), but not enough to get people to see Bug over Pirates.
