Ninja Assassin Attacks Car with Ninja Stars
German newspaper BILD has run a set photo from James McTeigue’s Ninja Assassin, which shows the front end of a car with who knows how many Ninja stars sticking through the hood. One can only imagine what kind of sequence The Wachowski Brothers have come up with that has resulted in this kind of car damage. Thanks to Christopher M for sending the photos along. The photo appears to be a month old, so I apologize to anyone who may have already seen it (I had not, so I decided to share).

Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated. The film also stars legendary martial arts performer Sho Kosugi (Revenge of the Ninja) as the ruthless leader of the Ozunu Clan.
Ninja Assassin Details Revealed
Warner Bros has released new details on The Wachowski Brothers-produced Ninja Assassin. As you probably already know, Ninja Assassin is directed by James McTeigue (V For Vendetta) from a screenplay by Matthew Sand and J. Michael Straczynski. The film also stars legendary martial arts performer Sho Kosugi (Revenge of the Ninja) as the ruthless leader of the Ozunu Clan. Sounds like it could be a very cool Ninja action film. I was really impressed with McTeigue’s V for Vendetta, but The Invasion was a disaster, although I’m not sure McTeigue can really be blamed for not being able to fix the mess that was handed to him.
he behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Karl Walter Lindenlaub (Independence Day, Prince Caspian), production designer Graham “Grace” Walker (Pitch Black, Gothika), costume designer Carlo Poggioli (Cold Mountain) and editor Giancarlo Ganziano. The Wachowski brothers’ longtime stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are also on board as second unit co-directors. Joel Silver, Grant Hill, Larry Wachowski and Andy Wachowski are producing, with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and William Fay serving as executive producers.
Principal photography has started at Babelsberg Studios and on location in various parts of Berlin.
Black Eyed Peas to Star in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
In Kill Bill: Vol. 2, Budd has to clean up a particularly fouled strip club restroom, and right now I have to write a Black Eyed Peas casting post. Night capping the last few days of X-Men Origins: Wolverine news, BEP member will.i.am (the one who looks like Wyclef) will star as John Wraith aka Wraith aka Kestrel, a mutant with teleportation powers and a thing for explosives who, in comic canon, belonged to Team X alongside Wolverine, Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), Maverick, Mastodon and Silverfox (Lynn Collins). This casting news arrives via IESB. The musician-actor, real name William James Abrams, Jr., previously starred on the TV show Cane, and the big budget film marks his feature debut. No word if he’ll contribute to the soundtrack or will have a scene teaching Gambit how to rap obnoxiously.
In a flick more befitting a BEP, rapper Taboo (the one who looks like he has a crystal skull), will star in 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, the second big screen incarnation of Capcom’s classic video game series. Taboo’s role has not been officially announced, but First Showing speculates he might be up for the still unfilled roles of Ryu, Ken, or Guile. If so, total hilarity. Also joining the film, which is directed by Doom’s Andrzej Bartkowiak, are American Pie’s Chris Klein (as Nash), the formidable Michael Clark Duncan (as Balrog), Korean American actor Rick Yune (Gen), and others. Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk is in the title role. Did Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia teach our society nothing in 1994?
Naomie Harris And Rick Yune Join Ninja Assassin
The Hollywood Reporter have announced that Naomie Harris and Rick Yune have joined Ninja Assassin. The film is apparently filming as you read this, and is being produced by Speed Racer directors, the Wachowski Brothers. V for Vendetta director James McTeigue will be sat in the directors chair, for what apparently is an original film. No comic books, no graphic novels, no novel, no anything. A writer has actually been paid to use his imagination for once!
The title of the film is a good indication of what we may get, producer Joel Silver has described it as a “full on martial arts movie.” He also says it’s has the theme of revenge running through it.
It certainly sounds interesting. Naomie Harris is best known for her role as Tia Dalma in the Pirates of the Caribean trilogy. She has also appeared in the amazing 28 Days Later and more recently, Street Kings.
Rick Yune is best known for being a Bond villain in Die Another Day, who had the unfortunate (or fortunate depending on how you look at it) accident involving diamonds blowing up in his face, and embedding themselves there.
Rick Yune spoke of his role:
“Not to give too much away, (but) my character stays within what he was brought up with, and they go up against each other,” Yune said. “I’m not a heavy. The characters are ninjas, they are assassins, and there’s this mix of morality the Wachowskis are exploring.”
Warner Brothers have yet to announce a release date, but I’m guessing we will see this sometime in 2009.
