Gotham Awards Draws Hollywood’s Best

Gotham Awards Draws Hollywood’s Best

Last night in New York City, the Independent Feature Project held the 17th annual Gotham Awards.  The year’s best indie flicks were recognized, and plenty of stars showed up to see who won.

Hollywood hotties Maggie Gyllenhaal, Uma Thurman, and Keri Russell all showed up looking fine.  And the men were no slouches, either.  Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin represented the male gender with pride.

Who were the winners, you ask?  Well, Sean Penn’s Film “Into The Wild” won the Best Feature Award, while Michael Moore’s “Sicko” took the honors for Best Documentary.

Don Cheadle’s “Talk to Me” tied with Ethan Hawke and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead” for Best Ensemble Cast.

Norway: A Deleted Scene From Michael Moore’s Sicko

Sicko PosterI was able to screen Michael Moore’s Sicko at a special screening before the film premiered this Summer, and loved it. I’m sure it will be on my top 10 of the year. But time is hard to come by now-a-days. I’ve had a DVD copy of Michael Moore’s Sicko on my DVD shelf for a while now, but have been unable to find the time to crack it open.

Today I stumbled upon a deleted scene from the film over on LiveLeak, which features the most healthiest country in the world. Moore was was heavily criticized for his praise of the healthcare systems in Canada, France and Britain, and this clip was left out of the original movie because it was said to be so “unbelievable” that “people wouldn’t believe it” because it was too good to be true. And they are right, this is pretty unbelievable. Check out the clip. Enjoy!

Sicko is now available on DVD.

Michael Moore’s ‘SiCKO’ Becomes the Third Highest Grossing Documentary of All Time Surpassing ‘An Inconvenient Truth’

NEW YORK, Sept. 9  — “SiCKO,” Michael Moore’s highly
acclaimed and entertaining expose of the American health care system, has
just become the third highest grossing documentary of all time grossing
$24.2 million domestically since it debuted in theaters on June 29th.
“SiCKO,” one of the most talked about films of the year, moved into third
place taking the spot of previous record holder “An Inconvenient Truth” and
behind Moore’s previous film “Fahrenheit 9/11″ and “March of the Penguins.”
The announcement was made today by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, co-chairmen of
The Weinstein Company.
Harvey Weinstein stated, “It’s an incredible achievement for ‘SiCKO’ to
have become the third highest grossing film in the history of
documentaries. We are going to keep the movie in theaters and plan to
re-release it during the Fall so that audiences continue to have a chance
to experience this entertaining and profound documentary.”
“SiCKO” has been playing in theaters nationwide for over nine weeks and
had the second highest opening weekend of all time for a documentary.
“SiCKO” is written, directed and produced by Michael Moore. The film is
produced by Meghan O’Hara and co-produced by Anne Moore. Kathleen Glynn.
Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein serve as executive producers. “SiCKO”
was fully financed by The Weinstein Company and is being distributed in US
theaters and on pay television in the US by Lionsgate Films.
ABOUT “SiCKO”
If you want to stay healthy in America, don’t get sick.
Following on the heels of his award winning hit “Fahrenheit 9/11″ and
his Oscar(R) winning film “Bowling for Columbine,” acclaimed filmmaker
Michael Moore’s new documentary sets out to investigate the American
healthcare system. Sticking to his tried-and-true one-man approach, Moore
sheds light on the complicated medical affairs of individuals and local
communities. “SiCKO” promises to be every bit as indicting as Moore’s
previous films. For more information, go to: http://www.sicko-themovie.com

Michael Moore on Oprah, Sicko re-released in Theaters

Sicko

The Weinstein Co are re-releasing Michael Moore’s Sicko this weekend, giving American audiences one more chance to catch this important documentary on the big screen. I can’t recommend this film enough, it’s one of the best of the year.
And I’m sure it’s no coincidence that Moore will also be making a second appearance on Oprah today to follow up on his appearance from months ago. Following Moore’s first Sicko appearance, Oprah received thousands of letters from viewers who wanted to share their own health care horror stories. She invited a number of them to come on today’s show, which will feature not only Mike but the head of the health insurance lobby in D.C.

Sicko is the third highest grossing documentary of all time.
