Oprah’s new spin-off to be distributed by Sony
It looks like Oprah is getting in bed with someone else, figuratively speaking. Sony Pictures TV will be distributing her new upcoming spin-off talk show hosted by heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz.
This marks a change from her usual relationship with CBS Television Distribution which distributes her own show as well as the spin-offs involving Doctor Phil and Rachael Ray. Dr. Oz is being perceived by many as a competitor to Dr. Phil, whose host’s ethics have recently been in free-fall. CBS is already planning to launch its own spin-off of Doctor Phil called The Doctors.
“This will be our focus for fall 2009,” SPT president Steve Mosko said. “All of the resources of Sony will be behind this. We think Dr. Oz is a phenomenal talent, and every part of our company will be involved in making sure the show is a huge hit.”
Harpo Productions chose to meet with all major distributors for this program, much as it did with Dr. Phil. This sort of situation is why there exists a free-market economy.
The Hills co-star gets his own series
Lauren Conrad is like the Flavor Flav of MTV. That statement probably needs some explanation. Much like Flav’s stardom has spawned spin-off after spin-off (with spin-offs of the spin-offs), LC is shining her light on fellow Hills cast members. First, I reported that Whitney Port is getting her own show and now…
The Hills co-star Brody Jenner is getting his own spin-off called Bromance. The show, brainchild of Ryan Seacrest’s company (thanks Seacrest), is a competition where regular guys come to Hollywood for a chance to be in…get this…Brody’s entourage. MTV Senior VP of Series Development Liz Gateley says, “Brody is the perfect fit for this concept; he is the type of guy everyone wants to hang out with.”
But wait, there’s more. In each episode’s elimination ceremony, the guys will gather in a hot tub for the news. Furthermore, similar to Rock of Love and Flavor of Love, the guys will participate in various competitions (i.e. skydiving and dealing with the paparazzi), go on group dates, and be rewarded with alone time with Brody.
Super Skank Wednesday: A tribute to Flav & more miscellany — VIDEOS

Welcome to Super Skank Wednesday. This is where I celebrate the awesomely skanky people on the following shows: Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, I Love New York (or whatever show Tiffany Pollard is making next), The Surreal Life, and Miss Rap Supreme.
After the jump, check out my tribute to Flavor Flav, my thoughts on Miss Rap Supreme and The Bad Girls Club, and other skankalicious goings on. (By the way, I won’t be talking about Heather Chadwell. I just thought you guys deserved a treat.)
Happy Super Skank Wednesday!
A Tribute to Flavor Flav
Lover. Rapper. Philosopher. Inventor of new words. This pioneer in skanktabulous television is finally retiring. There will not be a Flavor of Love 4. He’s let us into his life, included us in his search for true love, and taught us new words. And the ride has been both romantical and dramatical.
Flav’s mere existence on celebreality has spawned two direct spin-offs with I Love New York and Charm School and an indirect spin-off with Rock of Love. Call me crazy but if there was no Flavor of Love, there would be no Rock of Love. You can thank Mr. Flavor Flav for paving the way. Word.
But, alas, all good things come to end. Let’s do a quick timeline (Because timeline’s are fun. That’s why.):
1959: Flav enters the world. The universe smiles.
1980s: Flav raps in some group. (Just kiddin’. But seriously, let’s skip to the good stuff.)
2004: Flav appears on VH1’s The Surreal Life. He falls for the very large, very manly Brigitte Nielsen.
2005: Strange Love premieres. Brigitte leaves on a jet plane. She doesn’t know when she’ll be back again.
New Year’s Day, 2006: Flavor of Love premieres. And so begins Flav’s quest to find true love and Tiffany “New York” Pollard’s rise to super skank stardom.
August 2006: After Hoopz breaks his little rapper heart, Flav embarks on yet another journey to find the “flavor of love.”
February 2008: The third time’s a charm and Flav comes back for one last shot.
May 2008: Thing 2 returns to France to take her man. Flav has found love. Good for him. Bad for us.
Just for fun, here’s a clip from Comedy Central’s Roast of Flavor Flav. It has a ton of bleeps but you’ll get the idea. For those of you who haven’t seen this, I highly recommend clicking on that link and checking out the whole thing.
Miss Rap Supreme: Slightly Disappointing
You know, Miss Rap Supreme was rather dull this week. The drama between Chiba and Byata is getting old. I’m getting sick of Byata and I still can’t understand why everyone else seems to think she’s cool. They should have kept Khia on. She’s a troublemaker. Hopefully, next week there will be some more drama. It seems like it’s Nicky2States vs. Chiba and Miss Cherry vs. Byata this time.
What do you think of MRS? I’m sorry I don’t have much to say about Monday’s episode. To make up for it, here’s a clip of Chiba and Nicky2States fighting…
The Bad Girls Club: Bye Bye For Now
Well, that’s it for Tanisha, Cordelia, Hannah, and Naveen. I know I didn’t cover this show too much this season, but I’m definitely there for season three. Here’s a clip of the season finale. The flashback video package about five minutes in is priceless. These girls make the Flavorettes and the Rock of Love chick look downright high-class.
And now, some news from Skankworld, a galaxy far far away (or just here in Los Angeles)…
Whitney Port from The Hills had a “nip slip” at The Ivy. (Warning: that link goes directly to the unclothed nippage.) If I may add something else…why couldn’t this have happened to one of the skankier Hills stars? I like Whitney. But let’s face it…a simple bra would help in these situations. Yep, a bra would definitely help.

Khia, one of the first eliminated from Miss Rap Supreme, trashed Flavor of Love 2 winner Deelishious on her blog. Here’s the link to an audio clip of Khia and Deelishious going head to head on the radio. Apparently, Deelishious thinks that Khia said that she has AIDS or as they both refer to it, “the bug.” I didn’t know that was code for AIDS. Anyway, Khia’s backpedalling is amazing. Now, I didn’t find the blog post in question (yes, I have to work on my skanky reporter skills), but I did find this blog post in which Khia calls out Miss Cherry for saying that T-Pain is her baby daddy. And Khia even talks trash about Kim Kardashian and Ray-J. I could’ve have searched longer but there were just too many misspellings and curse words. The gratuitous use of punctuation was unbearable too.
Rejoice! VH1 is doing another Charm School. It’s the Rock of Love girls edition and it will be hosted by Sharon Osbourne.
See you next week! Same place. Same time. Same me. Probably even the same skanks.
Jennie Garth will be part of the 90210 spin-off
Actress Jennie Garth, who portrayed Kelly Taylor in almost 300 episodes of the hit series Beverly Hills, 90210, will appear on the series’ spin-off set to premiere this coming fall season on The CW. The actress, who will appear in a recurring capacity on the spin-off, will reprise the same role that helped put her on the map in the 1990s.
It’s not unusual to see original cast members make their way in spin-offs. And when said spin-offs have teens attending school, it’s a regular occurrence to see the original cast member be part of the school’s staff. Kelly Taylor is no exception here. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Kelly Taylor will become a guidance counselor at West Beverly Hills High. Nothing more is known at this point about the character and if other 90210 original cast members will join her on the show.
Jennie Garth was also part of the cast of What I Like About You and of Season 5 of Dancing with the Stars.
