Theaters Give Chace on Halloween
While CW fans get to know him as lacrosse-playing teen-about-town Nate Archibald on Gossip Girl, Chace Crawford has also been busy screaming for his supper.
The Haunting of Molly Hartley, a supernatural thriller starring the 22-year-old heartthrob (who also made magic in the teen-witch chiller The Covenant), has been given a Halloween 2008 release date after indie distributor Freestyle Releasing acquired the U.S. rights to the film, the company announced Thursday.
Crawford plays Joseph, the nice guy who befriends new-girl-in-school Molly (Haley Bennett), who, for unknown reasons, is becoming increasingly freaked out by… something.
Crawford is one on a long list of current and former CW/WB/UPN stars, including Chad Michael Murrary, Jessica Biel, Sophia Bush, Barry Watson, Tom Welling, Kristen Bell, Brandy and Emily VanCamp, who have flashed their scary sides to beef up their big-screen credentials.
Allison Mack will be in Smallville next season after all
Smallville fans, you can finally resume breathing. The last few weeks have been a roller coaster due to the fact the two creators left the show, because of the departure of Michael Rosenbaum and the announcement that two new regulars would join and because of contract negotiations for Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack.
It was confirmed pretty early on that Kreuk would only be a part-timer next season. However, Mack’s future with the show was up in the air. Actually, it was even talked that she would not be returning because she couldn’t reach an agreement with The CW show. The latter news was supported by the fact her name was omitted earlier this week in the network’s Upfront press release.
TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello breaks the news today that Mack inked a deal with the show to be a series regular next season. According to his sources, the actress will appear in all episodes of Season 8. I’m relieved that Mack will stick around because she is my favorite character on the series. Are you happy she is sticking around or would you have preferred to have Chloe leave Smallville and Metropolis for good?
Show regulars for Season 8 of the series are expected to be Tom Welling, Laura Vandervoort, Erica Durance, Aaron Ashmore and Allison Mack as well as the two actors who’ll play Davis “Doomsday” Bloom and new female character Tess. Kristin Kreuk may be billed as a regular but, as I’ve said before, she will only appear in a few episodes.
JLA Update: Tom Welling as Superman? Live Action NOT Motion Capture?
Am I the only one starting to get tired of all the recent JLA news and rumors? It seems like anytime new word breaks, it’s quickly followed the next day by a retraction with new exciting information. It’s not that I don’t believe the film is going to happen, it’s definitely going down. Warner Bros wants to rush this film into production by March 2008, before the potential strike. Even the LA Times has confirmed this as fact.
It now seems like the film won’t be filmed using Motion Capture after all. That’s right, we’re back to a live action JLA movie. This is too bad, because the idea of a 3D computer animated film appealed to me more than the live-action concept. IESB, who is at the forefront of all the new Justice League of America information is now reporting that only a few underwater sequences and computer generated characters will be created using motion capture. Smallville star Tom Welling is also supposedly in talks to play Superman in the flick. Series producer Alfred Gough is denying the story over at SupermanHomepage. Filming a JLA flick early next year could run into scheduling problems with the Smallville television series. So who knows what’s really going on.
I’m sure by late next week the film will be a black and white 3D movie using digital recreated versions of Christian Bale and Brandon Routh (I kid, I kid). I just wish Warner Bros would just make the official announcement already. George Miller is obviously attached. Please WB, stop this rumor madness and just tell us what’s going on!
Bad Ideas: Superman to star in Teen Wolf Remake
Remember the old Teen Wolf movies? The original 1985 Michael J Fox film was a staple in the 1980’s. Although a 5.3 imdb.com rating makes us question our cinematic memories. DH is reporting that a remake is in the works with a female in the lead. And get this, Smallville star Tom Welling has been cast in a supporting role (romantic interest?). Canadian High Schools are being scouted for a 2007 shoot.
Teen Wolf Too, a lower budget sequel starring Jason Bateman, was released and quickly forgotten (the movie is currently on imdb’s bottom 100 movies of all time). A Teen Wolf 3 was even announced sometime before Teen Wolf Too was released, but due to poor box office of the second film it was never produced.
Let’s hope they don’t call this one Teen Wolf Again. Better yet, let’s hope the project falls into development hell.
