The RZA, Hans Zimmer Teamed Up to Score Vin Diesel’s Babylon A.D.

One is the feted composer of films like True Romance and The Dark Knight, the other is the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan and a killer composer in his own right (Ghost Dog, Kill Bill). What do they both have in common? They both made appearances on the latest Slashfilm Muxtape! And in yet another example of the Effect, Zimmer and the RZA have combined their magic to score Vin Diesel’s Babylon A.D., the sci-fi chaser opening late August that has taken forever to get released. Here’s what the guy also known as Bob Digi told an alt newspaper

“The RZA’s team and Hans Zimmer’s team have combined to create a hybrid kind of score for this movie that’s based in the future. So I think it’s going to be a good vibe for the audience out there, and it’s a good movie anyway – a very thought-provoking movie,” said The RZA (who got away with a lil’ third-person, but he’s The RZA, so hey!)

And add one more name to the film’s composer pot, Shavo Odadjian, the bassist for System of a Down aka “kids these days, I’ll tell ya.” That seems like a lot of effort/talent for a movie that hasn’t exactly put Geekdom on drool alert. RZA added that Tarantino has been holed up like a squirrel for many months—working on Inglorious Bastards, probs—and that he still mentions doing something more with Kill Bill, but, like a girl who leaves ya hangin’ on the phone, we all know how that goes.

Rate-a-Trailer: Vin Diesel Saves Us All in Babylon A.D.

You kinda have to respect Vin Diesel for sticking to what he loves: stylish sci-fi movies that don’t exactly make bank (see The Chronicles of Riddickor don’t). So check out this new trailer for Babylon A.D., due Aug. 29, which looks a bit like Children of Men remade on the Blade Runner set. And maybe that’s a good thing, since French director Mathieu Kassovitz’s futuristic flick feels superslick, despite Vin’s sour look in every shot. And hey, look, 1.5 seconds of Michelle Yeoh!

What do you think? Can Vin win with this one?

American Babylon A.D. Movie Trailer

Babylon A.D.

Earlier today we brought you the international teaser trailer for Transporter 3, and now we have the first American trailer from another French film Babylon A.D.

Mathieu Kassovitz’s (Gothika) sci-fi action thriller stars Vin Diesel as Thoorop, a veteran-turned-mercenary who takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman from Russia to China. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah. I’m not really expecting this film to be the next Children of Men, but I love watching big budget futuristic sci fi action films. The fact that Fox might have forced Kassovitz to cut the film down substantially probably isn’t a good sign. It still looks like it might be a fun popcorn film, and how can you go wrong with Clint Mansell’s awesome (and yes, overused) Requiem score for a trailer soundtrack?

You can also watch the trailer in High Definition on IGN. Babylon A.D. will hit theaters on August 29th 2008.
