Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez Hit Toronto

Rising Disney stars/BFFs Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have made the trip up north to Toronto, Ontario, as the duo arrived arm-in-arm to their hotel on Thursday afternoon (July 3).

With her Wizards of Waverly Place pal there for support, Miss Lovato is readying for her opening act duties for the Jonas Brothers - with the tour kicking off at the Molson Amphitheatre later tonight.

The North America tour then heads to the States, beginning with a show in Clarkston, Michigan on Saturday night - finally wrapping up on September 5 with a show in West Palm Beach.

As for Lovato, the blooming singer recently told press that “most of the music she’s interested in is too dark to make it on a Disney album” - so, as the story goes, she “turned to the Jonas Brothers to lighten her act up.”

Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez headed out to the red carpet on Saturday (June 14), posing for fans and photographers at the world premiere of “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” at The Grove in Los Angeles.

The rising Disney actress was there to get a early look at the drama based on the American Girl doll line, which stars Abigail Breslin and is due out in theaters on July 2, 2008.

In related news, Selena recently spoke to press about avoiding a Miley Cyrus Vanity Fair-like scandal by maintaining a pure lifestyle.

Gomez revealed that she told her father to buy her a promise ring so she can make an official virginity vow.

She tells: “He went to the church and got it (ring) blessed. He actually used me as an example for other kids. I’m going to keep my promise to myself, to my family and to God.”

Though there are all kinds of rumors swirling around gossipland that Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus are feuding, Gomez has definitively shot them down.

The “Wizards of Waverly Place” cutie recently went on record to set things straight regarding her relationship with the “Hannah Montana” starlet.

Selena said, “We’re literally like, It’s fine. It’s all good. She’s Miley and I’m Selena.” As for the constant comparisons to Miss Cyrus, Gomez says she’s flattered.

“It’s a little overwhelming, but I think really, it’s a compliment.  She’s obviously extremely successful, and I think she’s a wonderful performer … So being compared to her, I was very, very flattered.”

As for differences, Selena (who has a debut album and feature film in the works) says she’s not comfortable taking the stage all by herself.  “I’m not going to be a solo artist. I want to be in a band with four other guys.”

Selena Gomez: No Feuding With Miley Cyrus

Selena Gomez wants everyone to know she’s not feuding with Miley Cyrus.

For about the past six weeks, Gomez has been dubbed “the next Miley Cyrus,” with Disney execs hoping to fast-track Gomez into even bigger stardom because they were getting nervous about some of the controversies surrounding the Hannah Montana star.

The 15-year-old Gomez stars in the Disney Channel hit Wizards of Waverly Place.

“It’s a little overwhelming, but I think really, it’s a compliment,” Gomez told me of the Cyrus comparisons. “She’s obviously extremely successful, and I think she’s a wonderful performer…So being compared to her, I was very, very flattered.”

I caught up with Gomez on Saturday over some Crumbs cupcakes at a press day promoting her upcoming fall movie, Another Cinderella Story. (I’ll have more on the flick closer to its September release.)

Gomez and Cyrus have even had a good laugh about their so-called feuding. “We’re literally like, It’s fine. It’s all good,” Gomez recalled. “She’s Miley and I’m Selena.”

No doubt the comparisons will fire up again when Gomez’s first album debuts. However, if it’s up to Gomez, you won’t find her doing it alone. “I’m not going to be a solo artist,” the Texas native insisted. “I want to be in a band with four other guys.”

Gomez is keeping mum on a release date because her record deal isn’t official yet. “Soon, soon, soon,” she said with a laugh. “I can say that for sure.”

Gomez’s rise in Hollywood isn’t the only thing she’s celebrating these days. She’s got a party planned for her Sweet 16 in July.

“I’d like to have a huge, fun and crazy cake,” Gomez said. “I kind of want a Mad Hatter style cake like Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s [wedding] cake. I want to have karaoke, and I’m going to have a photo booth. It’s going to be really just strictly family and friends.”
